The Irish Government has announced that construction work on the light rail system Metro North which will connect Dublin Airport to the city center, will begin in 2021 and will be open for business six years later.
The new route will run from St. Stephen’s Green to Dublin Airport and onwards to Swords, ending at the Broadmeadow Estuary.
The metro line is part of a €7.5 billion transport investment programme over the next four years which will also include a €750 million complete redesign of Dublin’s bus network, and €110 million for walking and cycling facilities in Ireland’s main cities
A further €2.4 billion is allocated to upgrading national roads and remove bottlenecks.
Details of the proposed investment programme were announced by Transport Minister Shane Ross at a post-Budget press conference in Government Buildings yesterday.
