Dublin Airport’s new year got off to a positive start with January passenger traffic up 9% compared to the opening month of 2016.
The airport handled almost 1.9 million passengers during the month, with the largest volumes on routes to and from mainland Europe.
Passenger volumes to and from the Continent grew by 7% to almost 873,000. UK traffic grew by 8% to more than 741,000 passengers.
Traffic to and from North America grew by 28% with more than 165,000 passengers taking transatlantic flights.
Other international traffic, principally to the Middle East, increased by 2%, with more than 72,000 passengers travelling.
The number of passengers using Dublin Airport as a hub to connect to another destination increased by 45% with almost 55,000 passengers transferring onwards.
Almost 6,000 passengers travelled on domestic routes – a 3% increase on January last year.
